During my 25 years as a GP, postgraduate education has become ever more important. Far more than simply updating, this is an essential factor in both job satisfaction and avoiding burnout for Doctors and Nurses. My projects include the first Induction Day for PRHOs in Taunton; the first New GPs' programme in the UK; developing in-house CPD with all Somerset practices, and many years of highly enjoyable work with colleagues as Tutor and Appraiser. The vital leap is from the old top-down, consultant-student concept to basing what and how we learn on our own needs and experiences. |

I love teaching and learning, and exploring something new, or developing something known. After 4 years of organising, creating and delivering Continued Professional Development (CPD) programmes for GPs in Torbay, Southwest Socrates offers me the opportunity to move in new educational directions for Primary Care. Learning revitalises me, nurtures me, supports me, challenges my established perceptions and opens up possibilities. This is what I want Southwest Socrates to do for Primary Care practitioners. |

I have worked in GP education for the past 4 years. I am committed to a holistic approach to patient care and to GP education and support, and with the latter in mind, I run co- and group mentoring schemes.
I believe strongly in education which recognises and values each learner’s preferred learning style, and which actively engages participants in the learning process. In Southwest Socrates I am pleased to be working with fellow educationalists who share this ethos, and who are similarly passionate about delivering a CPD programme which has clear and tangible learning outcomes. |
